Position Details Job Number: 28-2023 Category: Research Title: Research Technician III - 2023 Date Posted: 07-05-2023 16:15 PM Description: You will have some of the following responsibilities: •Research in laboratory and field including scientific diving and small boat operation.•Assist and coordinate efforts to establish, maintain, and retrieve experiments, and conduct surveys, including data collection.•Collect animals and plants, examine, and supervise the preservation and conservation of specimens, tissue, and DNA samples for their subsequent scientific use.•Maintenance of live animals kept in the laboratory.•Data entry and management of databases.•Support in the verification of the equipment necessary for field and laboratory operation, making quotations and purchases. •Complies with SI's safety requirements and research standards, including MSDS, lab safety protocols, scientific dive plans, scientific diving certifications, boating certification, and research permits (, Mi Ambiente, IACUC, export permits).•Organize field teams and conduct fieldwork as well as coordinate, assist, and occasionally train students and interns in the proper use of the laboratory and field techniques. •Periodically present work from his/her area of responsibility to immediate supervisor, committee, or others as required.•Perform any other duties inherent to the position and/or assigned by the immediate supervisor. To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements: •Master's Degree or equivalent of 3–5-years of practical experience.•Ability to work independently and oversee and coordinate team members.•Ability to advise on the adequate use of equipment.•Knowledge of Panamanian Environmental laws.•Experience ordering of supplies and equipment.•Experience conducting ecological field and laboratory experiments, surveys, and collections in aquatic environments.•Ability to communicate with and relate to a wide range of people in both English and Spanish (fluent in one and partial command of the other) in a multicultural environment.•Knowledge of computer software applications (MS Office, Windows, Access, and others related to his/hers duties).
